Girls Who Code is an organization that supports and encourages women in the computer science and technology fields. They aim for gender parity in the field. One of their goals is to provide computer science education and exposure to 1 million young women by 2020. Besides donating, there are also a number of ways to support and get involved in this organization.
This organization acts as a bridge to connect other organizations supporting women. It is a collaboration of all the different kinds of organizations that support women in STEM and together develop and plan out programs for women. Through this collaboration, other organizations are put forth and made known. It also acts like a directory as it also created FabFems, a national database for women involved in the STEM field. Through FabFems, young girls and organizations looking for female role models and speakers may be eased. One way of helping NGCP is by donating for their mini-grant fund and collaborative support.

These organizations play a huge role in changing the patriarchal society we are part of right now. They show how women and men can do the same things. They show how women should not be belittled because they too can achieve greatness. Also, they help women realize that they can do what they want to do and that they can ignore the social norms set upon them by society. Though these organizations are on their way towards making a change, I think that they need to be known more. These organizations should be supported by more people to be able to effectively have an impact on our society now.

ReplyDeleteReally interesting post, it's nice to see that there are actual movements towards gender equality. I think that there should be more awareness regarding these organizations and their aims.
ReplyDeleteThis is very nice. There should be equality and women are just as intelligent as men. This is one of the factors that proves how us, women, can do things than men also do. This is very uplifting. Wonderful!
